Hello,

I have a quick question regarding fat consumption. My protein intake comes to approximately 80 to 100 grams a day (320-400 calories) based on the calculation provided by Dr. Rose dale for an athlete working out four days a week. How many grams of healthy fats should I be consuming a day. I am at 5 meals a day consuming around 125 grams of fat a day mainly coming from organic unprocessed coconut oil and some extra virgin olive oil. My carbohydrate intake comes from tomatoes, spinach, romaine lettuce and is less than 15 non fiber grams of carbohydrates. I have been suffering from very unpleasant stomach pains and constant belching even when just drinking water (around 6-8) glasses a day. It happens from both oils, which I usually consume in liquid.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Martin Solecki

P.s. my protein intake comes from chicken, turkey, veal, lean beef spiced with garlic powder, chili pepper powder and occasionally sea salt. Even without the chili pepper and other spices my symptoms are the same. I usually broil my meats without oils and then add them to it. For some reason organic eggs (3 a day) give me headaches and wild Alaskan sockeye salmon gives me slight headache and stomach pain.

It does sound like you might have an allergy to something, so keeping close tabs to what you eat to identify what it might be that is triggering the symptoms. If this does not yield the answer, then have your gut flora checked as this can cause many issues. Regarding how much fat one should take, this is where each person is different. You put into the body what it is needing, and not a number that one might give you. The fat is there to keep you satiated, and also gives you the added fuel needed in a strenuous workout. The works out, are you competing competitively or is this just for leisure? as we find many times people are pushing their bodies too much and actually causing more damage than their goal of ultimate health. For athletes competing, there is a point where they chose to push to win verses ultimate health.

    Best of health.

    Hi Fiona,

Thank you for your quick response.

I would have to say that the workouts are somewhere in between. I am not
competing, but I do like to push my self. They are about 45 minutes or less
    four times a week.

In regards to gut flora check. How do I go about this?

I used to be very strong as a child. I was born in Poland and lived there
until the age of 13 and never had allergies. The only sensitivity I had was
from eating a lot of eggs, which I loved as a kid, but never knew that they
were there reason for my headaches. I had a allergy test done. I am
sensitive to wheat, milk and tomatoes, ( not eggs, I seem to do fine with
just the whited strangely) but those reactions were light.

Now for some reason I can not eat Salmon( headaches and stomach pain),
which I could eat fine before. I eat herring occasionally and I have no
know reaction from them at all.

The only supplements I take are multivitamin and one Carlson fish oil soft
gel a day (more seems to give me headache). I also use herbal extracts and
powder such as; Saw Palmetto, Pygeum, Ginko Biloba, Stinging Nettle, Green
    tea (decaffeinated) and Fo-ti.

    Thanks Again,

    Martin

It seems you are doing most things right. The fish oil capsules, are they in a plastic bottle by chance? if so, they will be rancid. Fish oil needs to be kept in a glass bottle as it is very sensitive and can oxidize in a plastic bottle. Either go for a quality capsule in a glass bottle, (which are hard to find) or the liquid carlsens in the bottle will work great. Regarding the gut flora check, the tests can be easy to get, however most doctors do not read the results correctly. Having Dr.Ron give you the full details and directions of that process would be more than we can offer on this helpline, sorry.

    Hope this helps.

    Best of health.

    Thank You,

I will switch from the capsules to liquid.

I am sure you are familiar with food combaning. Here is a chart provided
by Ron Kosloff, which says combining concentrated proteins with oils equals
    to poor digestion.
    http://vincegironda-nsp.com/index.php/2011/11/food-combining-chart/. Any
    thoughts.

    Martin

p.s. Would there be another way I could possibly schedule a consultation
with Dr. Rosedale to help me with the directions regarding the gut flora ?

I looked at the chart, and it is very archaic information, and would do a lot more harm to your body than just disrupting your digestion. These food recommendations (starches) along with the fruit, is almost as bad as the ADA, AHA, which has gotten society in this big problem in the first place. You will enjoy this debate with Paul Jaminet and several others that are promoting 'safe starches' which is similar to the chart you directed me to. http://drrosedale.com/blog/2011/11/22/is-the-term-safe-starches-an-... It is a long read, and there is a place a third down where you can skip to the summary. However, in your case you really should read the whole thing. It will give you the core foundation of why adding starches and thinking they are healthy is totally ludicrous. It will also give you the advanced knowledge so that you will be able to look at most articles and eating suggestions and know right away yourself if it factually correct. For some body builders, there is a point like I mentioned when they choose to be unhealthy in order to gain the extra pumped up muscle. It seems your workouts are geared tobe fit, trim and healthy verses winning a body building competition.

Regarding a consultation with Dr. Ron, right now he is working on a few projects and has not been taking on any patients, nor doing any consultations. However, once in a while he will do a few here and there. He charges $500 an hour (labs would be paid directly by the patient) and would want you to do all the labs upfront so that he can review the results and data before the call so that the conversation can be the most useful for the patient.

    Hope this information helps.

    Best of health.
