How does leptin affect breastmilk production?
I am having my 4th child in a couple of months and am worried about breastfeeding. I've been able to breastfeed the first 3 for as long as I wanted but only by eating massive amounts of carbs. If I ate fewer carbs (even while keeping my calories high), my milk supply would drop off. Consequently, I've gained 15-20 pounds with each one. How does leptin effect breastmilk production? Is there something I can do to increase it? I've been to the lactation specialists and tried Rx galactagogues, etc. and that doesn't really seem to help.

Your breast milk will drop off if your leptin goes too low, which should not happen if you are eating enough fat. It might go a little lower but not enough for your breast milk to drop off.
