Clarification about whey protein
I have been avoiding whey protein because I understand that it may be "insulinogenic" (ala Gary Taubes). But it is one of the proteins that is most appealing to me. A protein shake for breakfast is quick and simple and palatable. I'm having a hard time with eggs lately and a hamburger or chicken breast for breakfast seems a little wierd :). How does Dr. Rosedale feel about whey protein isolate? How about adding xylitol or sucralose to it? Also, what is the maximum number of grams I should eat at one sitting? Is it any different from other proteins in that respect?

Dr. Ron is fine with whey protein isolate, as long as you do not have too much at once. Depending on your protein requirements for your size. So, for me I have about 55 grams of protein a day, so at breakfast I have a whey protein shake that is about 18-20 grams as I often skip lunch, might have some nuts in the afternoon.

Thanks. That brings up another question. How much protein do I add because I am pregnant.

Congratulations! Adding about 10 grams will work great. Don't forget to take fish oil, preferably the one in a bottle like carlsens as most in gelcap form are not manufactured and maintained correctly so they will be rancid. The fish oil is amazing for brain function and development. We are so excited, when one embraces the diet while pregnant as you are building the fabric for a healthy foundation for your child's life.
Keep up the great work!
