heart graft and statins
Hello,
We (my husband and I) are new to following the plan but are very
committed and have learned so much. While we understand why to not
take statins we are torn on what to do. My husband had 5 arterial
grafts (he had almost 100% blockage in 5 arteries) last April.
Everyone was so shocked because he eats so great, is not
overweight, and walks/runs 4-5 miles a day. They say this is
probably what saved him from a heart attack. His doctor has put him
on a lot of the supplements that are mentioned in your book but he
also wants him to take a statin. He said if he doesn't then his
grafts could plug back up within a year. He took the statins for a
couple of months and didn't like the way it made him feel and one
of his doctors said he could go off all the medications. But now
that he is seeing his other doctor he is on Crestor. He really
doesn't want to take it at all and has decreased his dosage from
10mg to 5mg. I'm afraid to tell him to stop taking it. If he stops
and gets plugged back up then I'll feel so guilty for encouraging
him to stop, but from everything I'm reading I really don't want
him on it at all. He is back to running/walking 5-6 miles a day and
feels great, loves the new eating plan, and continues to take all
the right supplements but is following Linus Pauling's C therapy
plan. I guess I'm looking for confirmation that he should stop
it.
Thank you for any advice.
Jean Ann

He should stop it.. Crestor has not even been shown to reduce heart disease, and increases total mortality.. Stop it. Diet is 75%, supplements about 15%, exercise 10%. You need to check if he has checked his ferritin and homocysteine.
Best of health.

Dr. Rosedale,
Thank you for taking time to reply. He has stopped the Crestor. He was speaking at a business meeting and all of a sudden couldn't remember what he wanted to say. It took several minutes for him to get his thoughts back together. The next day he had trouble following directions on a map - he never even needs a map. He said his brain felt like it was in a fog. A few days before that he had a severe nightmare where he actually jumped out of bed and started crashing into furniture. So, thank you for the confirmation we needed that he should stop the statin.
He has had his blood tested recently and he will get his results so we can check the levels you mentioned. I read also that pure pomegranate could help too. Also, he is taking nattokinase, krill oil, vit E, and resveratorl as the aspirin substitute.
Thank you so much for your wonderful work.

So glad to hear he has stopped the statin and thank you for sharing his symptoms. The pomegranate is more of a fad as the macronutrients will far outweigh any of the goodness in the micronutrients. Also, reservatrol, will not do any harm but if you read the fine details of their scientific study you will learn that it would take unfeasably high doses to actually make any difference. Keep us posted on his progress.
Best of health.
