Labcorp vs book leptin test results ranges
I had the lab test "The Rosedale Diet Book" suggested to get a
baseline. The book gives results for leptin as 4 to 6 ng/dL
optimal, up to 9 ng/dL as acceptable: 10+ ng/dL as high.
My results from Labcorp for Leptin, Serum is 10.5ng/mL with
Labcorp's expected range for non-obese, healthy male as 0.5 - 13.8
ng/mL.
Converting my result to books units gives 1050ng/dL.
Why the big difference between books and Labcorp range values?

When I wrote my book, there was only one lab testing leptin that used a radioimmunoassay that is quite accurate. As leptin has become more popular, largely as a result of having written the book, many labs are now testing it. However, since radioimmunoassay is a more expensive test, and generally done for research purposes, and requires a license to handle radioactive materials, most labs have now gone to a different ELISA enzyme methodology of testing that has different standards though the actual numbers are fairly similar. I would use the latest reference ranges. Thanks.
