Dear Dr. Rosedale

Please would you tell me if rice bran oil is an acceptable oil to use on your programme?

regards

Let us know how you plan on using it, it has some micro nutrients in small amounts would be good, but not to cook with.

    Hi Fiona
Thank you for your reply.  Unfortunately you have not answered any of the questions I asked in my query.  I am well aware of the fact that you should never cook with olive oil and I don't.  I use it in salads or to make dips, mayonnaise, or drizzle over cooked or raw food.  Please would you address the concerns I have about this particular oil and the validity of the label and packaging.  I await your urgent response.

oh my goodness, Fiona, please ignore my rant about olive oil, I was challenging one of the products that I suspect is not olive oil but pretending to be ... I emailed you about Rice Bran oil - actually, this oil is known to be great for cooking with as it has a high heating point and doesn't change properties, etc.  I want to use it to cook with instead of coconut oil sometimes, but mainly to use to make mayonnaise because it is bland and better to use than olive oil for that purpose.

ru sure it is okay?  I know sunflower oil, etc. is not.

Rice bran oil is very high in omega 6's and oxidizes readily when heated. It is very similar to peanut oil in it's composition, and we would not advise using it.

Hello Fiona, thank you for response - confused as your first email response was that the oil is nutritious and can be used but not heated ... does this still stand or should I not use it to even make mayo?

That is correct, I thought it would be ok at first until Dr. Ron went through the breakdown of it, and said that it would not be a good choice unless used as a micronutrient only. It is not an oil that commonly comes up at all, so always learning something new.

thank you --- between your first email okay'ing it and the email saying not okay to use, I used 200ml in mayo which I ate with lettuce - what would the impact be on my body now - I have been on the Rosedale diet for about three weeks?

    Dear Dr. Rosedale

I am sure that the intentions are good - but two friends of mine also on the diet have received incorrect responses from Fiona for advice and guidance on the diet.

When a person spends money on a book and doesn't find the advice there, they are grateful to have the website and customer queries as an additional resource.  However, when the questions and answered incorreclty and this impacts the progress people are making on their diets and with their health issues, it is a huge waste of time and energy to spend three weeks on a diet only to find that because of feedback received from Fiona that they've been doing it all wrong.

I'm sure Fiona is a very nice person and well intentioned, but I don't believe that she is doing your website justice, nor do I think it is fair to your customers/followers to have someone misguide them when they are trying so hard.  I personally am under pressure of time to lose weight and don't have time to mess about.

I'll thank you to either insist that Fiona run every response she handles by you before hitting the send button, or to find something else to do within your organization.

    Thanking you.
    Kindly,

    GRACE OCEAN

Fiona does ask me questions and I answer them. I answered the questions that you asked about rice bran oil. Rice bran oil does have some micronutrients that are beneficial such as tocotrienols. However it is also high in omega six oils as Fiona answered. Therefore it is not good to cook with. We asked you how you plan on using it. If it was to cook with it should not be used. If used sparingly as a source of micronutrients rather than as a general oil, then it has some benefit.
