ketogenic, type 1, under weight

I'm a 43 yr old male and I was diagnosed in 2004 with Brittle Type 1 diabetes. After years of struggling with BGL highs and lows, try this, adjust that, new this back to that, I had to take charge.

I was introduced to the ketogenic way of eating in April of this year (2017). The results have been absolutely incredible! dramatically reduced my insulins to barely any daily. I take Lantus and Novolog. My BGL have never been more stable and I have been feeling fantastic!

Before I started the keto, I had been sick most of my days and finally had to get on disability because of complications. I was unable to keep a job due to all the issues surrounding the diabetes. Gastroparesis, severe peripheral and autonomic neuropathy, had seizures from incredibly quick crashes and other issues.

I would bounce from 300 to 28 in no time. Most of the times I would not have any symptoms before it was too late. I also had a bit of a gut and love handles but I've always been thin, 150 - 180 most of my life. I'm 6'1".

I also was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and put on Levothyroxin. My endocrinologist were always adjusting this med as well. Years of kicking a dead horse. I wasn't improving just getting steadily worse.

Since I started keto all of the above have drastically improved. I'm still working on healing the thyroid and gastroparesis with natural approaches and I'm staring to see some positive results. However, my weight is dangerously low. I fluctuate between 135 and 139.

My endocrinologist and primary care will not support me being keto. They keep saying that its dangerous because of ketones in my blood. But I'm in optimal ketosis range. and definitely not in ketoacidosis.

I would know this because I've been there plenty of times, not fun. The last visit my primary care would not even look at my logs, she just shook her head no and said that all those carbs are essential for me to live. And I absolutely need the insulin and synthroid.

I had taken myself off of Levothyroxin well before I started keto. I seem to have too much energy now! Now to my question.

How can I gain to a healthy weight level, maintain it and continue the healing process on ketogenic diet? I do not want the rest of my life on disability and living the way I had been all these years.
