Can a pescatarian do this diet?
Hello,
The only animal flesh I eat is fish. I do not want to eat chicken
or other animals. I currently eat things like Boca Burgers and
Quorn (made of mushrooms, I think). Can I incorporate that into the
diet? I'm starting next week at my doctor's suggestion to deal with
high cholesterol.
Thanks,
Willow

Dear Willow,
Fish is GREAT! wild, deep sea fish even better. I had never heard of Quorn before, and it sounds wonderful. I just checked the burgers on their website and here are the ingredients below. The ingredients towards the end of the list are always in small quantities so not too worried about those, though potato maltodextrin is not great. The first 5 ingredients on the list will be the majority of the product. It would be great if they would not use the sunflower oil, as it is an omega 6, and we would prefer avoiding those oils. Though their net carbs per burger was only 4 grams which is great. When I have shopped with Rosedale, it seems things with soybean oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, he puts back down. Many manufacturers don’t understand the detriments, so actually writing to them might be an option.
Dr. Rosedale just wants to make sure that you get the right amount of protein from a good source. We would love to know who the doctor was that recommended you to the Rosedale Diet, as joining hands to support each other would be wonderful.
ingredients of the burgers.
Mycoprotein (38%), partially rehydrated egg white, textured wheat protein (wheat protein, wheat starch), onion, sunflower oil, whey protein concentrate. Contains 2% or less of rusk (wheat flour, ammonium bicarbonate), palm oil, natural flavoring from non meat sources, salt, sugar, tapioca starch, sodium alginate, smoked paprika, pectin, potato maltodextrin, barley malt extract, smoked yeast, potassium chloride, smoke flavoring, citric acid, gum arabic, silicon dioxide, tricalcium phosphate.
Keep us posted how things go.

Hi again, and thanks for the speedy response. Seeing all the ingredients of Quorn there makes me not want to eat it! How about Boca Burgers and other things made with soy protein? That comprises more of my diet than Quorn (chicken patties), which I eat only on rare occasions. Boca Burgers and Morningstar farms Spicy Black Bean Burgers are staples for me. I'd love to get your input on those. As for the doctor who referred me to the Rosedale diet, I'd be glad to give you her name as long as it's cool with her so let me ask her first and get back to you. thanks again!!

Dear Willow,
That is very respectful that you ask your doctor's approval first, you can reassure them that all I send is a simple email of thanks for recommending the Rosedale Program, and to make sure they have our contacts if they ever have any questions, and also to offer the book to them with the same discounts that harper collins gives to Ron. For some reason my internet is very slow tonight so unable to bring up the other products you use, but just check the back of the box, carbs - fiber = the true sugars. Of course if you are vegetarian then soy is one of the few sources of protein, but if you are not vegetarian, Dr. Rosedale does not mind you have a little soy, but it is a damaging protein shown to contribute to heart disease. We find it is very hard to get ready mass foods that are made perfect, so the mushroom burger is for sure a better option than a sandwich for sure!
