Insulin and Vegan Diets
Dr. Resedale,
If insulin is the cause of most degenerative diseases, how does Dr. Dean Ornish's vegan diet cure heart disease, osteoporosis, and many others?
Does a vegan diet, heavy in grains, legumes and fruits, not cause a great deal of insulin to be released?
Thank you,
Susan

Dear Susan,
We LOVE LOVE LOVE your question! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you as I have been hunting for a copy of a heated debate between Ornish and Rosedale during a radio interview, it will answer all of your questions and more!
The best of health.

Dear Susan,
We did find the radio interview with Rosedale and Ornish, it was a great interview for sure and the copy we have is the raw uncut version, which I would want to launch on our blog verses to individual listeners at this moment. I would not listen to all that you hear, and always best to check for yourself. The facts that we know, from our research is that even the initial partner (Dr. Gould I believe is his name) disavowed his association with these Ornish studies, one of the reasons was peoples tryglicerides went so high, but there were many more issues. People were far from cured over the long period. His program might be better for the short term, as any change from the typical American diet, fries, twinkies and junk food would show improvement, he also had them exercise and meditate which alone will show some improvement and which is not mentioned in his studies. It has been shown for a long time that vegans are not a particularly healthy group on the whole. Hope this all helps.
Health and Happiness,
The Rosedale Team

Dear Craig,
I believe you can find it Shelley's meandmydiabetes.com site, but it may be on the Boulder, Co public radio (KGNU) site. It was a great interview.

Hi Susan,
I have Dr. K. Lance Gould's book and can confirm, the recommendations include vegetables, lean proteins, limited fruits and very little grains and legumes. Fats are 10% or less and he does note his concerns regarding a vegetarian approach with starchy carbs similar to Ornish's (which is different from doctors such as Fuhrman, for example).
