Information in the book
Hi,
I have Dr.Rosedale's book and have read the many things on the site. I know it says no grains, gluten yet in the book it say Manna from Heaven is okay. (which has grains.)
I have not had wheat in 3 weeks, only grains are Marys crackers once in a while ; red wine.
I am still very swollen with water retention.
With thanks,
Kathy

The water is normally the first thing people say reduces in the first 10 days. It can be a multitude of things and impossible to know your full situation. Manna from heaven they use sprouts grains, so there is still some sugar and we have heard that some type I diabetics experienced a raise in sugars more than the label would suggest. So for the first month or two I would pass on the bread. A few crackers is ok. Make sure you are taking the magnesium and potassium and the fish oil which is stored in a glass bottle (never buy fish oil stored in a plastic bottle). It would be great if we could make your comment public on our site as then I know the Ken a wonderful long term Rosedale lifestyle professional would also answer your question as well. your email will always remain private, so is it ok to make it public?

There have been a few people in your situation, one lady that comes to mind was taking a beta blocker that the side effect was stated it stops someone burning fat. She was so frustrated as all of her family had lost lots of fat, and gotten of all kinds of medications and yet she was the one following the diet the strictest with hardly any results after 6 months. Once she changed this one drug to something else she started losing fat, when we last checked in with her she has already last about 60 ponds. People feel that a diet is or is not for them because they are 'different'. However when dealing with metabolic science we are dealing with the roots of health which is the same if we are human, a dog, fly, etc. There is a great article here from Dr. Ron that explains that better. http://drrosedale.com/blog/2012/10/14/the-transcendence-of-commonal.... It would be good for you to put in all your are eating in a plan like myfitnesspal.com to make sure that something is not off, when I did it I was amazed that I was way off on my protein instead of 60 grams which I was sure I was around, it was over 110! You do not have to do it all the time, just maybe 3 days and do EVERYTHING that passes your lips. Also make sure you are getting enough fat.

Fiona mentions: about making a list of exactly what you eat for about 3 days and getting enough fat, this would be good fat like monounsaturated & polyunsaturated.
List it here on the help line if you don't mind.
Avocados, olives, olive oil, salmon, tuna, pecans, almonds are a great source of monounsaturated & polyunsaturated fats

Hi Ken,
Thank you for you information. I really appreciate it. I am 5'9" 1/2-and have been dealing with this for decades. (severe water retention, wt gain.) I am borderline on elevated BP but on no medication. I am not diabetic and see several areas that would point to insulin resistance. When I saw that over the years, I limited my carbs, severely at times. I read Dr. R's book in 2004. I just reopened it again as I found the blog and loved the comments and info. Everyone shared. I do have Hashimotos(thyroid). No treats, breads, nothing other than red wine and dark choc. are my "vices". I know the book said to exercise 15mins after dinner and I read somewhere now that Dr. R . says a half hour? Re: salt...NO, I do not believe in extra salt . Especially with all the swelling I have. Thank you again for your bookmarks....I will look at them !!

Hi Kathy,
I have dealt with mild water retention for about 20 or so years but since I began using Dr. Ron's plan it is mostly in my lower legs & feet but not all the time. My thoughts are leaning toward not getting enough potassium. I am working on/testing that theory now.
I am using the Nutritional Information link above in getting a summary of my potassium intake on each food I eat on a daily basis, so far it indicates that I am getting around half of the potassium that is recommended.
Since I began Dr.Ron's plan back in June 2012, I have restricted my diet, a bunch. perhaps too much.
It's my understanding that Hashimotos can cause fluid retention, but that is about all the understanding I have about it, wish I could be more useful there.
Still hoping the best for you.
Ken
