What can be done?
Hi Dr. Rosedale,
I would like to tell you my experience with your diet and others and hope that you can provide me with some insight or suggestions (through your website, on the Yahoo groups, or personal email). I know you don't treat patients any more or respond to individuals, but I am wits end.
I never dieted in my life until I began with paleo eating in 1998 or so, after reading Neanderthin (by Ray Audette) - I was 30. It was the philosophy of it that struck me as true. I ate lots of meat, some veggies, and no fruit. I lost about 15 lbs and stalled. I regained that weight easily after minor 'cheating' on the diet (adding fruit, for example). Then I found The Paleo Diet. I followed that to the letter and felt great. I lost 15 lbs and stalled. I regained that weight easily after minor 'cheating' on the diet (adding fruit, for example). Then I found the Rosedale Diet. I followed it to the letter and felt great. Really great. I lost 15 lbs then stalled. I took a break from it, didn't gain any weight back, and restarted it wholeheartedly. I didn't lose any weight and have gone off it. I have regained 10 lbs. I will retry shortly because my mental state is 1000 better when I follow your diet, but I am not losing weight. I am still about 25 lbs over weight- all in the belly.
I can go into much finer detail about my efforts and stringent adherence to your diet. Stringent adherence. And devoted vitamin swallowing. My little story above is glossing over my sustained and heroic efforts.
But I need to lose this belly.
I want to know why my body does this. Why does it rebel at 15 lbs and refuse to move, except to regain?
I'm sure you've met many women like me, who are at wits end and ready to take drastic action. What do you tell them? What can you tell me?
Andrea

Hi Andrea,
Here is a great conversation to follow from others that hit the plateau of fat loss. https://drrosedale.tenderapp.com/discussions/questions/1598-plateau...
If you stick withit, it does work and once you get to this point just hang in there, it might take a few weeks or a few months, and I bet it took more than a few years to gain it. Doing a little exercise nothing outrageous even just 15 minutes a day of something to get your heart rate up, climbing stairs, walking fast around a park, dancing to some great disco music behind closed doors ;-). Count what you are eating on fitday or myfitnesspal.com as this will make sure you are keeping your protein in check and you will find those hidden carbs, make sure you are having some fat. A wonderful friend in India who had been overweight for about 20 years was so frustrated when her husband and her parents lost lots of access fat and she just a few pounds yet she never cheated and was the most diligent in sticking with all of the rules, she did finally start dropping the fat but for her it did take a little longer. Also she was on a betablocker that was for lower blood pressure which in fact was also stopping her from burning fat, can you believe that.. so Dr. Ron switched her meds and her pace quickened a little. Remember even 2 pounds a mouth is 24 in a year. The yahoo group is amazing if you post what you are eating in a day they will all chime in with a suggestion or reassurance that you are on track. Keep us posted on your progress. Your question is a great question and would help many others who are reading, would you mind if I made it public on our site here, your email will always remain private.

Hi Fiona,
I don't mind if you post my question. I just want to stress that I followed the program without exception, and did so for 8 months before 'giving up'.
I lost 15 lbs right away, and then stalled for the remaining time. I am an active person, walking to work daily, cross-country skiing weekly, sledding, swimming, and other weekly activities with my son.
I clearly have the metabolic dysfunction Dr. Rosedale writes about, but I do not live a sedentary life. I'm going to try the program again - today was day one. I've also read Julia Ross and am treating my withdrawal symptoms (cravings) with the supplements she recommends and the ones Dr. Rosedale recommends. So, off to the races again. Please let me know if there is some approach to take or something I can do should I encounter stalled weightloss again.
Thanks muchly,
Andrea

Thank you Andrea and your willingness to help others. You are right, as we can tick all the boxes and you are doing more than most in the exercise department and you also kept going even after the 15lbs for quite some time. I will check with Dr. Ron when he gets back in town to see if there are any other suggestions that jump out to him. He does come in to the system here often and read many of the comments and progress.

Hi Andrea,
May I ask what exactly do you eat & the portion size each day.
Here is my present approach ..
When I first began Dr. Ron's diet I soon realized that it was much more than a diet – it was a needed lifestyle change
I encourage all to make their own personal “lifestyle change” because I know You Can Do This
While my approach will probably not be everyone's “cup of tea” at this time it is serving me well.
I make no distinction between breakfast, lunch or dinner – they are all a meal
My daily eating routine pretty much consists of the following
• The below is not written in stone, I do allow myself to make changes
• 1-2 avocado
I use a bowl that holds approximately 2 liquid cups
In that bowl I put the following ingredients for each meal ..
• approximately 13 to 16 gram protein per meal – I try to stay within 45 – 55 daily total
Protein source comes from: salmon, tuna, Grass Fed: eggs, chicken, turkey
You might find a Grass Fed farm/market near you here
===============================
1-3 daily
• approximately 1/8 cup chopped peppers
• approximately 1/8 cup chopped celery
• approximately 1/8 cup chopped spinach leaf and or broccoli
• approximately 1/8 cup chopped cauliflower
• 1 – 2 table spoons of olive oil
===============================
• 6 – 8 olives black/green
Snacks: almonds, olives, celery
Seasoning: Sea Salt, Black Pepper, Mustard, Tabasco, Vinegar

I have been following the Rosedale diet for 2 months and i love eating this way. My issue is that after awhile i began to cheat here & there. Hi Erica,
Glad that you are still at it and commend you for doing so.
You stated: Does one need to do a full 3 weeks of plan A?
Personally I have kept with Plan A since I began using Dr. Ron's Health Plan a year ago now. A lot of good things has taken place for me physically since I began. I have changed my food intake some but still use the Plan A list. I have lost 84 lbs in weight and now can wear a 30" waist size pants as compared to a 42" waist a year ago. There has been great medical improvements as well.
I do not mention this to boast for I realize that we all are different and will adjust to things in our own way and time.
I encourage you to keep on keeping on - you can do this Erica
