Should I base my diet
First, my main question. I've been studying diets and dietary protocols for a few years now, and things get a little bit confusing sometimes. Im aware you suggest a high fat mod protein low carb diet, and it is a very convincing hypotesis, but so are the hypotesis of many other doctors. For example, Dr. Mcdougall. He looks great and seem very healthy, he also looks youthful, has nice skin and its lean. He eats a starch based diet complemented with vegetables and fruit. S No fat.
I am 24 years old, more or less 20 pounds overweight. I am very sensitive to what food I eat, my skin looks pretty bad, I think I look older than my age, sadly. I more or less try to eat whole simple foods for most of the time, potatoes with sugar free ketchup , yams, rice, fruit, some meat like tuna and chicken, spinach, vegetable soups, vegetable styr frys, some pastured butter, miso soup, sometimes yogurt, some nuts, generally toasted because im afraid of moldy raw nuts, and less often cheese & tofu. Sometimes I eat bread, but feel horrible afterwards, so i've slowly taken wheat products out of my diet. Also, when I eat beans I get stomach upset and a lot of gas. Wonder if I should be eating those... or maybe I should cook beans till they break down.. I live in Puerto Rico, so I eat the typical Caribbean foods too at least once every two weeks, like rice with stewed beans, tuber soup cooked with some meat/meat fat, boiled tubers, lots of lemons and oranges, gandules, etc..
Should I base my diet in the traditional foods from around here (sans the vegetable oils, frying and sugar), or maybe itll be better for me to progressively move towards more fat, some lightly cooked proteins (eggs, birds, fish- wouldn't eat the other animals, for personal reasons) and vegetables, with maybe a small amount of carbs, like fruit, or brown rice?

My question to you is why not try it, 100% at least for 6 weeks and see how you feel? For me, when I started I was 37, skin a little spotty, nails like wafers flaking off and bendy. Lucky I was not 'sick' with anything, but after hearing Dr. Ron talk about health and the roots of health what struck me to my core was if I continued on that path it was not heading in a good direction and the last thing I would ever wish is for my family to be burdened taking care of me if I got sick. I saw my skin clear within a month, my nails took longer but they are never flaky, and very strong and grow like weeds. I feel great, and I am a lot calmer in stressed situations where before I would bounce off the walls ;-), better clarity of mind, sleep better, used to have a little stiffness in my fingers in the morning that has all gone. So what is the worst thing that could happen if you give it a shot? Just pass on all of the starchy veggies like tubers, potatoes, yams, rice, bread, fruits, and have veggies that are not starchy, have good fat like coconut oil, olive oil, almonds, avocados, pass on the safflower oil, peanut oil, sunflower oil. Make sure you have the right amount of protein for your body size, you can see in our knowledge section for details on that. So for me I am about 5.8, weigh about 60 kgs / 130lbs / I have about 50 grams of protein in a day give or take. Remember this is not weight as there is fat and water in the meat (chicken/fish/meat) this is just the protein, so piece of fish the size of a deck of cards is about 15 grams, and egg has about 6-7 grams. For me, the answer was in how I felt and now working with Dr. Ron I see people all the time so many people that lost all their extra fat they had, diabetics type II's become non diabetic, I could go on but you can read the testimonials on our website to see for yourself. Hope this helps.
