Hi Fiona,
I joined Fitness Pal, and was that an eye opener. It is great that it
allows to put in workout and you can see your needs on a daily
basis. (Though Dr. Ron talks about taking in the same amount of protein per
day...regardless of exercise?). Here is a sample below from yesterday of
my results. My protein is higher than expected, but it looks like I am
doing well on fiber, carbs, sugar and fat (wow, I take in a lot of that).
Sooooo, how can I lessen my protein? What are some good food subsitutes?
One area I can cut is protein powder. I tend to go for nuts as snacks and
that racks up the protein grams. Do you have suggestion for non-protein
foods that would make good snacks? I do seem to need the evening meat,
which runs anywhere from 20 to 30 grams. I've already cut that
substantially from the portions I was eating. Where before I'd have a
whole chicken leg maybe then plus some (Dr. Mercola encouraged us protein
tyes to eat to take in a lot of protein), now it is only the thigh. Or I'd
have two turkey burgers, now it is just one. Still though packs on a lot
of protein.
If you'd like to post this one on public blog, that's fine with me.
Please do let me know!
Hope all is well and that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Dawn

    Hi Dawn,
Thank you for letting me post it public as it is a very common question and helpful for others to read. I was shocked myself to find I was way over on my protein, and doing just like you are. I enjoy a protein drink in the am and went from a full scoop to just about a 1/4 scoop, serving sizes on all the meats I reduced and going for the free foods like veggies, avocados, and just being aware of when I want to snack on something, asking myself is it because I am really hungry or bored and out of habit, if that is the case then a herbal/roibus tea helps divert that moment. Let me know what other free food snacks you come up with.

    Hi Fiona,
Great discussion and like the tea suggestion. The whey powder does add so
much protein and based on all the other things I put in my green smoothies,
very little powder is needed. Regarding other "free" food snacks, this is
not completely "free" but the good thing about pistachios is you can eat a
lot of them - 49 kernels - for only 6 grams of protein, 7.7 carbs, and 2.9
grams fiber, or 4.8 net carbs. However, you could eat half the portion and
it is very satisfying. What do you say?
Here is the nutritional information link (ps I love this site you directed

That is a great idea about the pistachios, and actually maybe having them in the shells as it just takes longer to eat - I have a lady right now having a hard time not eating too many nuts, I will pass this on to her.

    Hope all is well.

Nuts are my go-to snack with cashews being my favorite- they do make our
bodies acidic (except sprouted almonds) - so to compensate for the extra
nut protein (my body doesn't mind the fat), I have cut back on hemp, goat
and whey protein powders and meat portions. I always eat nuts in the
shell, raw, unsalted and organic, whenever possible. You are right; the
longer it takes to get at the nut, the greater the reward when you finally
do. And with pistachios, you can eat so many and experience a lot of
satisfaction. Hopefully this will be of help to your lady.
I also discovered macadamia nut butter with cashews which minimizes the
greater carb load that cashews have alone. Some folks just don't react to
cashews well, especially the brands that use heat for extracting the nut
which makes the nuts slightly toxic. The brand I'm trying now is Artisan
and their walnut butter mixed with cashews as well. Have you tried these?
If not, I'll let you know how they taste since they just arrved today.
I do have an unpoisoned source of raw organic cashews that I get at our
local raw vegan place. These nuts have never made me sick, even though I
    tend to overdo.

I had the walnut/cashew this morning on top of Paleo bread and it was
    excellent!
