Alcohol
I"m assuming alcohol is a no no but I don't see it mentioned any where. What is the rule there?
Thanks

Dear Allura,
Our standard answer regarding alcohol is, any alcohol will have some sugar, red wine is the least of most of them. If you are really stressed out then a little red wine will calm you, if you are calmer you will not be causing the sugars to raise as much. Red wine does NOT reduce your sugar, it reduces the stress a little, so don't think this is green card for drinking a ton of red wine saying 'it is good for me sugar levels' ;-) So, that said, you look at you and your case, if you are having issues with diseases of any kind, autoimmune, diabetes, heart, etc then you might dial it down more than someone who is doing a lot better. Also, many times when we say enjoy a little red wine, it can be taken to the extremes, for example one lady took that as having 3 glasses of wine (big glasses) a night. Beer is pretty high on the sugars, they do have some low carb options, but again, we also want to live a little. One fellow LOVED the fresh sweetcorn season, harvested right in his back yard, so though sweet corn is off the list, his idea of asking to enjoy it was to have maybe 3 - 4 the whole season, which is like having a cheat day, piece of cake, so your idea of a few beers when it is hot is like 3-4 a season, then enjoy - but know it is like cheating an having a big sugar filled piece of cake. For me, I always ask is it worth cheating over, sometimes if it is really yummy, the answer might be yes, but this question comes up maybe once a month or so not every day.
Wishing you the best of health.
