Hi,
I learned about your nutrition plan through Dr. Mercola.
I realize you cannot answer personal emails but am hoping for direction for my 78 yr old father who is a type 2 diabetic for many years and now suffering from ischemia, kidney disease and memory loss. He has always been able to control his diabetes with the regular meds such as Actos, Metformin (also on Lipitor and BP meds) and a very good Mediterranean Diet, just in the past few months after too much fruit over the summer, his BS numbers went from 90's to 200's. For the past 30 days, he has been on a low carb, lean protein, low glycemic vegetable diet as well as taking supplements from Metagenics and Xymogen to control blood sugar and metabolism. Although he feels better, the numbers remain in the 190-220 range.
I hesitate to purchase Dr. Rosedale's book because he does not read English, he is becoming depressed and less hopeful as well as forgetful.

We live in Connecticut which is too far to visit. Do you know a metabolic physician in the Hartford, CT area that you can recommend or can you help us through email or by phone (of course we would be willing to pay for the consultation).

We are currently doing phone/email consultation with Dr. Bruce Bloom of New York who is a doctor of neuetraceuticals using the Xymogen GlycemX shake for breakfast and afternoon snack, Ultralean Diabetic protein bars for midmorning snack, and before each meal, takes his meds plus supplements of Xymogen Conjulean, Metagenics Insinase, Metagenics Glucarest.
He uses the treadmill for about 15 minutes every morning.
I appreciate any advice you can send my way.

    Greetings.

I am sorry to hear about your father's troubles. Unfortunately as we age, so does our healing mechanisms and ability to effectively recover from and withstand sugar-forming foods, especially fruits. Without a detailed list of his foods and supplements, it is difficult to form an opinion on what is causing his elevated sugars. I am not familiar with Dr. Bruce Bloom or his supplement line. Can you send me a bit more detail (specifically the ingredients of the supplements and shake)? I do not know a doctor in your area, unfortunately but with the proper diet plan, your father's sugars should come down on their own, as he becomes more insulin and leptin sensitive. I do understand your hesitation to purchase the book if your father would have difficulty reading it, however I would recommend you at least visit the nutrition section on Dr. Rosedale's website as it will give you a good idea of the most effective diet to control your father's hormone signals (which will determine his blood sugar). The address is http://www.drrosedale.com/healthplan.htm.

    Dear Alfina
Sorry that Doctor Rosedale is not available for consultations at this moment, though I can sometimes get his Son for nutritional consultations.
In briefly looking at your list here, it is so important that you read The Rosedale Diet, and arm yourself with knowledge so you can make better decisions. So YOU know, when you see a product within a few minutes if it is good or not. Within just 5 minutes I was shaking my head that your poor father was taking these things thinking all along that they were good for him.

    your link to Glycemx-360
    http://www.metagenics.com/products/a-z-products-list/GlycemX-360
Very quick and simple, check the carbs which are 24 and minus the fiber which is 4g, gives you 20 grams of sugar! 20 grams is sugar is not healthy for a healthy person! So in 15 seconds, done, put it down and don't buy it. Next. Don't get tempted with the sales pitch, the facts are the facts, which should never be sugar coated.

Also on the list of ingredients the 2nd in line is fructose! The list of ingredients is always inline highest quantity first, anything with fructose is just not good, fructose is worse than sugar, so for you or your dad this is a HUGE red flag. Again in 10 seconds, you can know this is just not a good option.

    Other Ingredients
Soy protein isolate (soy), fructose, Dutch processed cocoa, plant sterols (soy), dicalcium phosphate, olive oil, natural flavors, soy fiber (soy), magnesium citrate, inositol, silica, inulin, proprietary blend of RIAA and acacia [magnesium salts of reduced iso-alpha acids

I hope this gives you a little understanding of what to look for. It would be wonderful for our others readers to learn from you as well, would you mind if we make this post public, only those searching our site for this answer will see it, and we will remove you personal phone number etc.

    Many regards,

    The Rosedale Team

    Dear Alfina,
Hope all is well. I know you were looking for a doctor for your father, we have heard good things about the doctor on the link below, Dr. John Salerno though we do not have first had experience, but his passion and understanding that diet first and foremost is very powerful to ones health is very encouraging.
