What to expect when switching from already low carb to Rosedale?
Hi. I've been low carb for several years now. I started after reading Dr. Bernstein's "Diabetes Solution". I generally eat less than 30g of carbs in a day and never more than the Bernstein recommendation of 6g for breakfast and 12g total for the other meals. In my time eating this way I have lost 200 lbs and my A1C averages in the 3.9-4.0 range with daily sugars averaging between 75-90. My last cholesterol was 106, LDL: 52, Triglycerides: 65, HDL: 41. However, my weight loss has stopped at 223-230 lbs. depending on fluid load. As I'm 6'3" this is too much. I've been trying different things and so far nothing has worked. I'll get down to 223 and in a day or two can be back up 4-7 pounds. I decided to follow Dr. Rosedale's recommendations but cannot break out of this "weight fluctuation loop" I'm stuck in. I'd like to get down to under 205 lbs. Since my body should already be proficient at burning fats for fuel is there some "trick" to get me to start burning my own body fat as opposed to my dietary fat intake?

What is your protein intake?
I have lost a total of 50 pounds in the last year and I have stalled a couple of times along .... Every time I stalled, I upped my fat intake (coconut oil, nuts and ghee) and decreased my protein intake by about 5 gms and my weight loss picked up again.... Right now I average around 50 gms of protein a day (I am 5' 5") ... I want to lose 10 more pounds and I am slowly making progress....

Hi Trisha. Thanks for the advice and congrats on the good work. I generally get about 75-80 grams of protein in a day. I'm 6'3" and figuring fat percentage based on waist-height ration using online calculators I get this:
Waist-to-Height ratio: 0.56
Percent Body Fat: 25.6%
Lean Body Mass: 168.2 lb.
Using this formula for a sedentary person - multiply lbs of lean body mass by .5 I get:
168.2 x 0.5 = 84.1 so I should be in range for my protein.
I've tracked things in the past and have 5-30 grams of carbs, 100-120 grams of fats, and the 75-85 grams of protein. I've tried upping the fats, lowering the fats, eliminating nuts and dairy, cutting back on butter and using more coconut and olive oils. I'm sure it's mostly fluid. This week I'm bouncing between 226-228. Saturday I was 224. It may be the hot weather here. I checked my stats from last summer and was fluctuating like this then too. Things stabilized with the cooler weather. The good thing though is I'm 20 lbs. less than last year at this time. Hopefully next summer I'll be at goal. In any case I'm much healthier than I was awhen I was 425lbs and at least when I get up from my chair, the cair doesn't come with me anymore. :-)

Dear Snallygaster and Trisha,
Thank you Trisha for such a great answer! Funny we have heard both ways working, sometimes adjusting the fat intact up or down might have the same effect. Rosedale uses the fat to satiate, so if you have plenty of stored fat already then reduce the fat a little which will then force your body to take from the reserves. Though, like Trisha said some people not having any fat intake saw some results by increasing the fat. If you have been hauling around your stored fat for many years then the body naturally drops down in stages, when you feel you have reached a plateau it is a level where the body feels is at its perfect level.. for a time.. then realizes that there is actually more to go and it will then start allowing you to lose it again. A little exercise helps get through these plateaus.
Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing and helping each other.
Best of health.
