blood sugar
I recently picked up a glucose meter as i've been curious how different meals are affecting me so I started testing after meals every 15min for 2hrs with some interesting results. My questions are:
-
What does the doc consider the optimal range for a fasting blood glucose level?
-
Looking at after meal spikes, how much above and below your fasting level would be considered a not so healthy meal?

That all being said, there are several other factors to take into account. How much insulin and leptin is it taking to keep the sugars down? As far as glucose levels per se, it is glycation that is important, and one can obtain an estimate via a hemoglobin A1C.
Thanks for the good questions.

Thanks for the reply, However is there not a certain range you consider a healthy fasting blood sugar level ? And or a min max range they should stay in after meals?

A fasting blood glucose level?
Reasonably optimal; under 90, best under 85
Looking at after meal spikes, how much above and below your fasting level would be considered a not so healthy meal?
Best to try and keep it under 125 even after meals..

Perfect, thanks for the response. Looks like I'm right in line with that from what I've tested so far.
However I did notice a few meals actually dropped the level under my fasting level for a bit. Is this normal or a sign of something I should look into further?

It should be just fine, let us know the numbers.
