I'm wondering about whether the total protein count includes the protein gram count in all foods (beans, nuts, etc.,) or if I should be counting only the grams of meat-based protein (chicken, fish, etc.)
THANKS!

Beans also come with some starch as well as some incomplete (does not have all the amino acids you need) proteins, so we would keep these to a minimum. Nuts, are great for snacking on, but keep it to 8-10 if you are hungry, then in an hour is you still feel a little hungry then have 8-10 more. Nuts can be quite irresistible so pay attention to how many you are munching on. EAT only if you are hungry, and not if you are bored, angry, upset ;-). So, for me, I would have around 50 grams of protein from meat/fish/chicken, and then the extra 8 might come from a few nuts here and there. I don't personally count the protein in veggies.

Thanks, Fiona! I love nuts, but they really don't satisfy my hunger, so I try to stay away from them because I can eat large quantities of them! ;-).

I am weighing my fish and chicken to ensure I have an adequate (and not excessive) portion. I'm just concerned about my total protein count. There is virtually protein in everything-- eggs, cottage cheese, LF cheese, as you said, even in veggies. I want to ensure I'm not consuming too much so as to get and keep my Leptin at sensitivity level.

Keep in mind it is not always the weight, so a piece of chicken about 2/3rd of your palm will be 15 grams or so of protein but the weight might be totally different, as there is also water and fat in it as well. An egg is about 6-7 grams of protein. I great website to get an idea if there is not a label on the food is http://nutritiondata.self.com/
